It's friday! Yay!
I'm looking forward to tonight. I love Friday nights. When Ian comes home from work his work week will be set aside until Monday morning. He'll be less stressed. His boss really values him at his job but they have very few staff since it's a small engineering firm and Ian spends a lot of time working on big projects both solar and traditional electrical engineering projects. However it seems that the deadlines keep causing him to have to work very late. And on Wednesday right after he had finished a project so that he could work on his other impending deadline projects he got an email telling him to no longer work on that project since there were changes coming even though it's due next week.
So yeah, he's been a bit stressed.
Meanwhile my only plans consist of doing some gaming this weekend, responding to comments and such, and doing the laundry. Brigid's been using the machines all week this week as she keeps getting distracted watching the tv shows I got her for Christmas. She's currently watching Black Sails. I'm loving the theme song.
I have some packages coming today. One is a hopefully much less broken dvd set of Warner Brother's best romantic movies. The one that arrived on Monday was in pieces. Hopefully this one isn't because It's got a lot of good movies on it. Another is lingonberry jam, I've got some crepes in the freezer and I'm hoping to get a flavor similar to the crepes at Ihop. One of the others is some custom dice for Ian and Brigid's birthdays in February and March. I hope they look as cute in real life as they did in the etsy shop.
I also keep being cheerful about the fact that Russel T. Davies is returning to write for Doctor Who. Is there hope that it'll be good again? I really miss Doctor Who. But the current writer is just as bad as Moffit got during season 6...so I tend to pretend that show got cancelled. I especially didn't like what I read about them inserting still more Doctors into the mix now before the First Doctor and making the Doctor not a Gallifreyan... It was bad enough when Moffit added the war Doctor before Nine. It made it so the numbering system got screwed up and confusing. Which can be very frustrating when reading fanfiction and Eleven isn't acting like Eleven and then you read further and realize they mean the Tenth Doctor... But since the later doctors Retconned RTD's writing maybe he can return the favor and ditch all of that.
It was all just a dream boom the Doctor regenerates into a Doctor played by Billie Piper and her grumpy companions played by Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Matt Smith...
But now it's time to go do some household tasks and maybe go see what my cats are up to. Never mind the littlest one my black cat, just climbed on the desk it is apparently time to pet the cat.

Date: 2022-01-07 09:51 pm (UTC)It's been a while since I've watched Doctor Who. I didn't much like the 12th doctor, but I think it was mostly down to the fact that I just didn't really get into the stories the episodes tried to tell (especially of the 9th season). I liked the female doctor and I liked quite a few of the stories, but somehow I missed when the second season with her started and never got around to catching up again. It's been even longer since I read anything in the fandom, so I didn't realize that the counting ended up being screwed up there. I always considered the war doctor to be just the war doctor and not part of the official counting as far as fandom goes.

Date: 2022-01-15 04:05 pm (UTC)I've watched some of my favorite scenes and I've devoured some really good Doctor Who fics recently. I just haven't enjoyed the series since the last part of Eleven's era and beyond. I had a long and rambly paragraph started here but then the cats were being naughty and I lost what I was saying entirely. I've never really been a fan of Jodie, the actress that plays the Doctor so I haven't felt like watching. Last Doctor I tried to watch was 12 and Bill but I didn't care for 12 at all.
I just watched the first season Bad Wolf scene and Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper reminded me of why I became a Whovian in the first place... The chemistry and acting... Maybe I'll marathon the first five seasons...
I like the people that classify him as the War Doctor... but sadly some people do not so it's made the tags fun sometimes. ^_^

Date: 2022-01-15 05:23 pm (UTC)Yeah, the early seasons were fun and I'm not sure if it's just because the world itself has seemingly become heavier or if DW ended up covering heavier topics and show becoming heavier.
When fandom can't agree on how to "Count" the characters. The joy.

Date: 2022-01-18 05:53 pm (UTC)The female doctor debate is what killed the DW fandom on Tumblr that I enjoyed hanging out with. I suddenly got angry anon messages and a kill yourself message from an anon after I posted uncertainty that they would handle it very well pointing to how they when they made the Master... Missy they had a few lines of dialogue where suddenly she couldn't call herself the Master anymore.
It made Doctor Who into a read fanfiction, make icons and post about it in my journal but don't interact with the community they've gone feral...
I don't know. I was reading an article about the falling ratings in Doctor Who and whether or not they have anything to do with it being seen as being more political and they pointed out that Doctor Who has always had a message that was liberal and Politically correct but that the writing was better and it was presented as a choice/story that made you think rather than just being fed to you. I thought that was an interesting point. I think the writing used to do a better job at making Doctor Who fun. Even when it was tackling heavier issues it did so with funny moments and in ways that fit the characters.
Thankfully most people in the fics I read are ignoring the Doctor before all the Doctor's that showed up in 13's era and seems to have been a massively hated arc even by those who were still watching. They didn't watch the season that just aired or is still airing. And most people tend to label the War Doctor as his own entity rather than making him Nine and mucking the number system up.

Date: 2022-01-18 06:17 pm (UTC)I kind of liked and disliked Missy as the Master. I think there were plenty of missed opportunities there. Calling her Missy was just - well, looking at those two words in comparison right now it almost seems like "Master" is not right for a woman, let's do a cutesy version of it. Not sure if I ever noticed that before.
I think I got out of the fandom for the most part during the era of the 12th doctor already and even while I was watching the newer episodes, I didn't really get back into it. Although, I do think I at least noted down a story idea somewhere where the female doctor decides to search out Jack to get a full test run of the new body parts. Because Jack definitely would be willing to help on that front :D
Maybe that's true about it being more in the face political and less fun that's the difference. Or maybe it's because the world has seemingly become so politically divided on all kinds of ends. I feel as if there's so much less middle ground to walk on when it comes to that.
I think I haven't watched since the first season with the 13th doctor and I don't even know how many seasons there had been since. Which is kind of a shame as I liked several episodes and the new companions, but I just didn't get the cohesive, fun vibe it used to have which didn't make me want to watch more.
