Part 1, Week 3
Jan. 15th, 2026 08:12 pmGoing strong with the third week of Part 1! This is the half-way point of the first Part, which also means it's half-way through the Minimum Mood Track; if you're only in the game to make something small but mighty, you could be half way there this week!
This week's Minimum, Medium, and Maximum moods are: Enthralled, Happy, Indescribable
Some nicer moods this week, along with one that's a little more difficult to depict. Enthralled and Happy are straightforward enough, but what do you do for Indescribable? Do you have any thoughts on the subject? If you've made a mood theme before, what have you used for this mood? Need any help brainstorming? Or maybe you're working from the worlds angstiest fandom and actually need help with Happy and/or Enthralled? Let's talk about it!

New year, new friends
Jan. 15th, 2026 04:27 pmHello, all! I know I'm a little late to really consider this a new year's post, but here I am looking to meet a few new people nevertheless.
About me:
My name is Katie. I'm 47 years old, and this summer will mark my 25th year of journaling on LJ/DW/both.
I'm a writer by profession, primarily of literary fiction with occasional book reviews for variety. I live in Philadelphia with my partner of 27 years (she's a high school physics teacher). We have a pair of eight-month-old kittens named Oscar and Zorro. I'm the oldest of three sisters in a pretty close-knit family. My sisters have five kids between them, and being an aunt is basically my favorite thing.
I love books and am always reading. Favorite authors include E.M. Forster, Marilynne Robinson, Leo Tolstoy, Virginia Woolf, Ursula K. Le Guin, Lauren Groff, Andrea Barrett.... The list could go on and on. I also love the outdoors and learning about nature. I've been a birdwatcher for years; more recently I've gotten into things like butterflies and insects, reptiles, wildflowers, and more. In summer, my favorite thing is finding wild orchids. My partner and I like to travel, and when we do, I use it as an opportunity to learn about the amazing variety of nature in other places.
In case you haven't already guessed, I'm a very introverted person. I spend most of my time at home, where I keep myself busy writing, reading, or in the kitchen. I like cooking, baking, and food preservation, and I'm always working on some sort of kitchen project or trying to teach myself a new skill.

About my journal:
My journal began as a place for me to keep track of my reading, and that's still the subject I write about most often. Other frequent topics include the interests mentioned above: writing, nature, cooking and baking. I tend to post more about what I'm thinking than about what I'm doing at any given time, although I do sometimes use my journal to keep track goals or record projects that I'm working on. I often include photos. I would say I post about once a week...but realistically it's probably a bit less than that.
If you're looking for a friend who comments on every single post, I'm probably not the right person for you. I do like to interact and I always read my friends page, but I prefer to comment only when I have something worth saying. Also, I've found over the years that I don't mesh well with extremely prolific posters. Once a day is fine, but if it's more than that I have trouble keeping up.
My journal is friends-locked for privacy, but I will be happy to add anyone who's interested in checking it out. And I won't be offended if it turns out that it's not your style.
Say hello if you think we'd get along!

Title: Lucky Discovery

Word Count: 1000
Summary: While scouting around after making camp, Varian finds an even better camping spot.
hopefully last political post
Jan. 15th, 2026 03:28 pmI set a timer that locks me out of Tumblr after 45 minutes as my stress has risen through the roof and I was beginning to feel hopeless.
And my overarching goal this year is to find joy.
And stressing out over my country to the point I can't function is giving them what they want. They want us afraid and helpless to quit protesting and crying out and voting in the midterms.
So mental health break today and tomorrow and then back to shouting and making it clear that this isn't right.
According to polls Republicans also Don't think Trump should take Greenland by force and another poll shows he's loosing support amoung the Gen z men. It's dropped 40 percent.
Here in my area of Florida, close to Tampa, in a region that overwhelmingly went for Trump, my neighbor is no longer flying his big black Trump flag and the pro Trump bumper sticker has vanished. Same thing with a few other areas that had pro Trump stuff still up in December. May they continue to open their eyes and help us keep Democracy.
In other news, I started listening to the full cast audio of Harry Potter and I'm enjoying it so far.
I'm debating going to the cinema to see the extended edition of Lord of the Rings in the theater. Seeing that 25 year in front of the signs though.
I'm old, Gandalf, I may not look it but I feel it.
I turn 42 in May. I have to schedule my first mammogram this year.
We have a freeze warning tonight brr.

An update of update-y-ness
Jan. 14th, 2026 11:10 pmJust a drive-by update for the sake of updating.
1) Happy birthday to my younger brother today! I got him a shirt with a smiling Mimic that says "I'm still a treasure"
2) I made an appointment for tomorrow morning for the Career Services department at the local community college, so I'm another step closer on my goal of becoming more employed
And now I move on to my night time routine. G'night!

[#287 | Hot Water] Challenge Post
Jan. 14th, 2026 10:29 pm| Challenge 287: HOT WATER |
Hot water is one of those things many of us take for granted. Just turn the tap and there it is, ready to heat up a little further for a nice hot bath, fill the sink to clean something, or take a nice hot bath! But it’s not always that simple. In a lot of places, hot water’s not that easy to come by, and even when it is, there’s a fine line between comfortably warm and far too hot. In the metaphorical sense, “hot water” refers more to the latter than the former! Someone who’s in hot water has found themselves in some kind of trouble. No matter how nice the water seemed originally, it’s getting a little too hot… Write a story about hot water (in either sense of the phrase). If your submission features stars, it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting! |
| Challenge ends Monday, January 19 at 9:00PM EST. • Post submissions as new entries using the template in the profile • Tag this week's entries as: [#] submission, 287 – hot water • If you have questions about this challenge, please ask them here |

Jan. 14th, 2026 04:31 pmHaving a high anxiety day today. I'm getting too much politics and it's causing me too much tension.
I had to delete Instagram last year because it was causing me too much stress hope I don't have to delete Tumblr. I know there is much to fear but I also fear too much stress will kill me.
The news coming out of Iran is terrifying. Where are all the people who shut down universities and protested free Palestine everywhere? And ignored the fact that Hamas is a terrorist group that Palestinians should be free from? Who ignored the hostages? And sometimes even posted that the hostages deserved it even the Bibas children for being Jewish.
Note: I'm not Jewish nor am I saying Israel isn't deserving of criticism but denying the atrocities of a terrorist organization, ignoring facts, and in general supporting a terrorist regime is not the way to go. And frankly, Israelis protested the hell out their government begging them to do everything to get the hostages released alive.
Some people are saying those protesters are silent because the current regime in Iran hates the US and Israel.
But they are also killing the citizens of Iran. Where's the Un? The protests?
The silence feels damning and loud.
Then there's everything going on in the US. Demanding Greenland. Harassing citizens and immigrants and native Americans and generally Ice is being domestic terrorists.
Lots of people are protesting and loud so far not erupting into the violence the government wants to declare martial law.
Free Palestine from Hamas. Free Iran from the terrorists in charge. And free the US from Maga.
Let there be peace on Earth.
Rant over.
