In the past the unfortunate didn't know it was a hurricane and thousands died from not knowing they needed to prepare.
Wikipedia has one about the building of the only road connecting the keys to the main land... A hurricane came and a ton of construction workers were beaten to death by sand.
So I love modern weather channels and satellite and projections as it hopefully helps people who are in danger from the storm surge get to high ground before the ocean is in their house.
Even if the images now of Naples with the water sucked up and out is frightening.
And the new eye line showing it going over our house almost is frightening.
We're indoor, next to the closet ready to go into it if necessary.
My mother in law in Port Charlotte who may not have a house due to storm surge location is safe in Georgia.
My brother is in the town over safe in his shelter with my niece and nephew.
My mom is taking shelter as well.
So we're all hunkered down. With supplies for a few days.
Hopefully, it's better than we're prepared for.
