I'm sure there are plenty of reasons why people don't evacuate - good ones (like effort needed vs the risk of staying) and less good ones (like online attention).

I don't like beer at all and much prefer the offered beverages on Christmas Markets. They have a variety of mulled wine (the standard red, plenty have a white one, and some blueberry, cherry or I don't know what else) and even hot chocolate with a shot of rum or amaretto.

I'm not sure if I've ever seen a cherry Stollen, but Christmas Markets have plenty of good food - some available all over Germany and some local favourites. I've seen a couple of youtube videos of people trying food and drinks available on Christmas Markets. I love "Gebrannte Mandeln" which are candied almonds - especially if they're still warm.
