On German, Harry Potter, and daily babble, oh and movie recs?

I'm reading Harry Potter in German to practice my German because I've been irritated by how much I've forgotten and by duolingo. And I wanted to get it years ago when I was still in German classes but back then it was only in print mode and they wanted 60.00 for one book... so now I have the kindle edition.

I remembered because someone on Tumblr mentioned a while ago that they practice their Russian by reading novels they've also read in English and what better than breaking apart Harry Potter page by page to practice my vocabulary.

Especially since as far as phrases go all I remember how to say is that I have x number of cats, I like to play video games, all is clear, thank you and a copy, Most of Silent Night... And two of those I only remember because my German teacher had a very sing song voice so they were practically sung. And silent Night because we did Disney's Candlelight in high school so for four years we rehearsed the songs year round and Silent Night was in German, there was a folk song in French...

It's funny to me that I'm not okay with forgetting German but I'm perfectly okay with having forgotten all my Spanish and I took years of that, especially since Spanish would be more useful since Tampa has a very large Hispanic population. I don't know if it's because I was forced to take Spanish in high school and it's colored my resentment of the language since (our school had French, Spanish and German (when they could get 10 people signed up for it which never happened, and I wanted to learn French because my Mother can speak it but my stepmother wouldn't have it because only Spanish is a useful language...) or if it's because it makes me think of how happy my Father In Law was before he died that Ian and I were learning it.He spoke German fluently because his Grandparents on all sides were German immigrants but yet he flunked it in high school in Wisconsin because he spoke "Farm" German not proper German with proper grammar.

Sadly, my kindle gives me the definition in more German rather than giving me the English word when I highlight a word I don't know, so my first pass through is highlighting words I don't know in orange, words I think I know but I'm not certain of in blue. Then after I've looked up all those words in the giant German-English dictionary of doom, rereading again. Then rereading the same section in my English edition. So it's going to take me a while but it'll be fun.

I forgot Ian was going to work early and staying during lunch so he doesn't have to work too late today. So I'm sort of bummed that I may be all by myself during lunch. But he shouldn't have to work too late after work so it hopefully balances out.

Whether or not I'm alone depends on if my roomate crashes right away when she get's home from working the overnight shift or decides to stay up for some of the day. She's starting her six off of her eight on six off cycle and thankfully didn't have to deal with her fellow coworker that causes me to remind her that there is no Netflix in prison.

Speaking of Netflix, I signed up for the dvd plan free trial, because it turned out it was HBO not Amazon prime that was getting fantastic beasts and where to find them. Anyone got any movie recs? [personal profile] immortalje recommended Fantastic Beasts and [personal profile] reijamira recommended Sully so both of those are on my queue and Little Woman because I've been wanting to see that movie again but what else should I put on the queue.
